Tips for Becoming a Mystery Shopper
Most internet users looking to make money online have seen the advertisements for “mystery shopping.” These companies promise money for the average person to shop for products and write about their experience in exchange for a training or certification fee. But the truth is you don’t need training or certification in order to shop anonymously and earn money for it!
A StartupJournal.com article says that you should do some research on the offer before signing up or forking over any cash. They offer the following tips:
- Do a Web search of mystery shopping companies. Look for ones that are accepting applications — and don’t charge a fee for you to complete it.
- Do your homework. There are many books available on the subject, such as “The Mystery Shopper’s Manual” and “How to Become a Mystery Shopper.” Read up and understand what it takes to be a good mystery shopper.
- Start with the Mystery Shopping Providers Association Web site at www.mysteryshop.org. You can find out how to register with an MSPA member company, browse available jobs and feel confident that the ones represented there are legitimate.
If you are ready to start looking for shopping opportunities, search for available “shops” in your area with this search engine.

Great find. I’ve had a few friends who were looking for something like that. I’ll be sure to pass it on.

If your interested in becoming a Mystery shopper, go to this link and register with Informa Research Services. We were formerly called Barry leeds and Associates. There is no charge to you for registering. We pay you to do mystery shops for us. Here is the link:
http://www.informars.com/be_a_mystery_shopper.asp
Once you are registered, you will be sent “offers” for shops in your area as they come up.
To be eligible for signing up for any available shops, you MUST fill out the online W-9 form. We are no longer requiring shoppers to mail in this form. This will help speed up the payment process, and help us pay you quicker.
Click on the “Show Me Forms I Can Enter Directly” link located in the same shaded box at the top right of the page. Then click on “W-9 Collection Form ” to get to the form.
If we post the jobs as “public”, you will be able to apply for those shops. You’ll do that by logging into your home page and checking, from time to time, for these publicly listed shops.
In most other cases, if a mystery shop job is available in your area, we will contact you via email to alert you to upcoming assignments.
